Inquiry on Career Searching Types of High School Student-athletesin Unpopular Sports

초록

This study aimed to indicate the type in which high school student-athletes in unpopular sports have searched their careers, and to investigate the characteristics and the meanings of each pattern. For this, the study utilized qualitative method and did a typical sports high school in Korea using purpose sampling. Multiple methods in data collection have used such as in-depth face-to-face interviewing(8 student-athletes), phone interviewing, SNS chatting sites. The collected data were analyzed through inductive domain analysis to indicate themes and categories. It was found that the types of career search are characterized as 'giving up', 'depending on others', 'confused', and 'busy bodying'. These results might provide feasible implications to design career plans and development for directing career education of student-athletes in unpopular sports and guiding them to overcome limited career paths available to them.
