한국 시민사회의 현황과 과제에 관한 청년활동가들의 경험과 인식 - 사회운동, 협치(거버넌스), 사회적경제 활동가들의 초점집단면접(FGI) 연구

초록

To examine the commonalities and differences of activists’ experience across various areas in South Korean civil society, this study conducted focus group interviews (FGIs) with three focus groups, comprising young activists who have been deeply involved in social movements, collaborative governance, and the social economy sectors. The topics of discussion included ①the relationships among civil society, civil organizations, and citizens; ② trends and major problems of South Korean civil society; ③the relationship between civil society and government or politics; and ④ issues surrounding public support for civil society. Methodologically, this study adopts a three-dimensional model, involving ① thematic analysis of interview content, ②structure and dynamics of intra-group interactions, and ③ commonalities and differences across groups. The study’s findings reveal core themes shared among the three groups: diversification of civil society members, the coexistence of positive and negative trends, challenges of economic sustainability and reproduction, organizational culture and issues of power linked to generations and hierarchies, and the ambivalent nature of governance and public assistance. Notable differences among the groups include optimism versus pessimism regarding civil society trends, differing emphases on the most critical problems, and varying experiences with public-private cooperation and public support.
