1990년 북경 아시아경기대회 남북단일팀 구성을 위한 체육회담: 제1차 회담을 중심으로

This study examines the process of negotiation, preparation, and discussion regarding the formation of a unified North-South team for the Beijing Asian Games. The first talks in a positive evaluation due to North Korea’s change in attitude, which excluded political overtones, and South Korea’s proactive response, as well as sufficient time leading up to the Games. The preparation process for the talks on the South Korean side was not smooth due to conflicts of opinion between the Ministry of Sports and sports organizations. However, South Korea established a basic policy of accommodating North Korea’s claims to the maximum extent possible and formulated detailed policies regarding the unified team’s name, flag, song and other specifics. In particular, South Korea considered ‘team spiri’t training as an obstacle to the talks and made thorough preparations to address it. Although the two sides failed to narrow their differences on the issue of the team’s name, they achieved partial agreement on the team’s flag and reached a complete agreement on the team’s song during the first talks.
