This paper examines the trends in the research on Guo Moruo (1892-1978) in South Korea from the 1980s to the present. It categorizes the research into monographs, master’s and doctoral theses, and academic articles, providing a comprehensive summary and analysis of the evolving research landscape. The paper reflects on the limitations and gaps in current studies, aiming to engage in dialogue with previous scholars while emphasizing the importance and necessity of continued research on Guo Moruo. As a renowned writer and scholar in modern China, Guo Moruo made significant contributions to the development of modern Chinese literature and culture, profoundly influencing 20th-century Chinese intellectual history. His work has long attracted the attention of scholars both within and outside China, and the South Korean academic community is no exception. Contemporary researchers typically approach Guo Moruo’s literary creations, academic ideals, and his pursuit of values as key subjects of study. They seek to interpret the context and viewpoints of a scholar from a specific historical period, as well as the underlying thought processes that inform his works, which continue to offer valuable and thought-provoking research topics. Guo Moruo’s impact on the history of 20th-century Chinese literature and academic scholarship is undeniable, marked by his distinctive writing style and intellectual contributions. Furthermore, his works and personal trajectory encompass numerous aspects, making his life and writings an inexhaustible field of study. As such, it is crucial for future researchers to maintain the sustainability of their research themes, striving to elevate the depth and scope of their findings while moving beyond the limitations of previous frameworks.
