Purpose The purpose of this study is to derive the results of topic modeling of 'sports and blockchain' news in the United States and Korea, and to compare and analyze news trends and technology gaps between the two countries to identify commonalities and differences, and to identify technology gaps and countermeasures. Methods We collected data on 'sports-blockchain' news articles in Korea and USA through EBSCO, a knowledge document database. The search period was set as a 10year period from 2014 to 2023, when sport-blockchain articles , and a total of 14388 news articles were collected. After primary keyword extraction from the collected news, data pre-processing was performed for topic modeling. Results Both countries are adopting blockchain technology in the sports industry and have witnessed its use in player performance management, ticketing systems, fan engagement, and more. The difference is in the use of convergence with other advanced technologies. In the US, IoT, big data, and artificial intelligence are being integrated to analyse and train athletes' performance. In addition, keywords from a data protection perspective, such as data security and integrity, were recognised as equally important as technology. Conclusion First, Korea should integrate the latest technologies such as IoT, artificial intelligence, and big data into sports performance analysis and training to increase efficiency. Second, Korea should benchmark the US system to strengthen privacy protection and transparent management of data.
