A Story about Sports Posters Advertised in Newspapers During the Japanese Colonial Period

초록

(Purpose) This study explores the nature of sports posters advertised in newspapers during the Japanese colonial period, focusing on those related to domestic sports competitions, physical fitness tests, and beach resorts. (Methods) A literature review was conducted using primary historical materials, such as newspapers at the time, Gyeongsang-namdo and Busan, the Choseon Government General's survey, the Choseon Yearbook, and Choseon Ilbo's 100-year history. (Conclusion) During the colonial era, the Japanese imperial regime used sports posters as propaganda tools to justify colonial rule. These posters functioned as ideological tools designed to transform Korean subjects into loyal imperial citizens. However, it is believed that colonized Koreans used visual media to promote national unity and fulfill a centripetal role.
