한국의 젠더폭력과 신자유주의 젠더질서: 담론과 실천의 재구성을 위한 시론

초록

Given the argument that sexual assault, domestic violence, and forced prostitution should be recognized as a form of gender-based violence, this paper sheds light on the causes and consequences of violence against women, which has been identified as an individual, isolated, and infrequent incident. Based on the feminist perspective that violence against women is compounded by women’s low social, political, economic, and cultural status, this article also identifies crucial elements and social conditions, which forster and reinforce gender-based violence. Such an approach allows us to explore key factors that created obstacles to realizing women's equality and to achieving women's human rights. In this vein, this paper scrutinizes the ways in which threatened or unstable masculinity under the circumstances of neo-liberalism is clearly relevant to the appearance of coercive control against an intimate female partner for re-creating and maintaining imbalance of power between men and women. It also diagnoses that a hatred of women is one of the symptoms that should be considered as an irrelevant attempt for restoring traditional male privilege and prerogative. The very significant feature of gender-based violence as a backlash against changes in gender norms leads us to seek political and social transformation to deal with the problem in a substantial way. By clearly situated understanding of violence against women, this paper suggests that eradication of gendered violence depends on actualizing women's righs and gender equality, promoting public welfare and interests, and enhancing democracy especially through distributive justice.
