Exploring Predictors of Specialized High School Students’ School adjustment: On Gender Differences

초록

This study explored the effect of parental bonding, resilience, and career decision self-efficacy on school adjustment of specialized high school students, and examine whether these variables differed according to gender. The participants were 362 specialized high school students in Seoul and Gyeonggi-Do, Korea. The results showed that female students reported higher levels of mothers' care in parenting attitudes, as well as ‘positivity’ and ‘interpersonal relationships’, sub-factors of resilience compared to male students. Additionally, female students reported higher levels of ‘goal selection’, ‘job information’, and ‘problem-solving’ sub-factors of career decision self-efficacy, and ‘social adjustment’ which is a sub-factor of school adjustment, compared to male students. Based on a multiple regression analysis using a stepwise method to explore the factors influencing school adjustment of specialized high school students, resilience and career decision self-efficacy were found to have a positive influence on school adjustment. This study is expected to facilitate a reduction the school dropout rate of students by identifying factors that influence specialized high school students’ school adjustment
