초록

This article aims to explore the impact of the blockchain on the norms and values of the art field from the perspective of cultural democracy. The objective of cultural democracy is ‘culture for all, and by all’ to overcome the contradictions and conflicts in the existing arts and cultural field by providing equal opportunities for cultural participation. Based on the notion that the values of the blockchain, decentralization and openness, are in line with the principle of cultural democracy, this article examines the possibility of an alternative art participation model, which could solve structural problems in the existing art field through a case study of blockchain-based art platforms. The results show that the application of the blockchain would create a favorable environment which facilitates the horizontal structure and collaboration that further lead to a virtuous cycle of creation, appreciation and distribution of the art.
