Design and Application of a Hybrid Bibliometric-Topic Modeling Framework for Multidimensional Analysis of Core Technology Protection Research

As the U.S.–China technological rivalry intensifies, the leakage of core technologies has emerged as a major policy agenda in both national and economic security. In response, policy and technical measures for protecting core technologies have been increasingly expanded across governments and industries. However, few studies have examined the knowledge structure of this research area from a multi-layered perspective, limiting the ability to identify research gaps and propose future directions in a comprehensive manner. To address this issue, this study aims to design and apply a hybrid bibliometric–topic modeling framework for the multi-dimensional analysis of domestic research on core technology protection and to derive key research gaps and future research directions. Following the PRISMA 2020 procedure, a total of 177 studies were collected and screened. By integrating the network map generated by VOSviewer with LDA-based topic modeling keywords, five clusters were identified. The proposed framework achieved an overall score of 0.82 in terms of topic coherence, inter-term association, and topic diversity, demonstrating improved cluster quality compared with a single-model approach. Based on topic themes derived from integrated keywords, this study identified several major research gaps, including the conceptual ambiguity of core technologies, the relative lack of technology-oriented research, the concentration of research on specific industrial domains, and the insufficient integration of managerial and technical perspectives. This study is academically meaningful in that it demonstrates the potential of a hybrid analytical framework for network integration and the expansion of knowledge structure analysis. It is also expected to serve as foundational evidence for future research and policy discussions related to technological sovereignty.
