For Jacques Lacan, art is both a signifier for 'symptoms' and a signifier for creating 'the Real'. It is the concept of 'the Gaze' that shows Lacan's perception, which is similar to Punktum, where the subject-audience finds its own landscape beyond what is seen. First, 'beyond what is seen' is the responsibility of the subject of the unconscious, as was the case with Punktum and Gaze. Reading a picture looking beyond what is seen can be seen as a form of gaze that senses the Real in which an image reveals itself in the form of light. It can be understood that Gaze and Punktum are provided in the unconscious realm beyond consciousness that human beings are true subjects. Next, the unconscious subject attempts to face the Real through trauma, that is, repetition of automaton and accidental tuché. 'Trauma' is derived from the Greek word for 'hurt'. The Latin word that has the same meaning is Punktum. After all, Punktum, which penetrates the viewer and wounds the symbolic and average reading of Studium, is a flash-like encounter with the Real. Speaking of Punktum in Lacan's way, it can be said that "the Real is a violent return that destroys the smooth order of the symbolic world." The gaze and the punctum share a commonality in that they both reveal the possibility of the true subject beyond the realm of consciousness, within the domain of the unconscious.
