레온 박스트의 고대 지향적 미의식과 색채 심미성: 『나르시스와 에코』를 중심으로
초록
This study tries to find out the aesthetic consciousness of Leon Bakst, who were in charge of stage and the stage c ostume at Ballet Russes in early 20 century and based on findings, examine his color theory based on his career. His interest on colors started with his ‘aesthetic consciousness which was oriented toward the ancient’. Bakst considered ancient Greek spirit, i.e. ‘the creative mind of expressing harmonious world of the reality and the ideal in dynamic way’ as the essence of the arts. He recognized the colors given by the Nature as dynamic colors and considered them as the most suitable for expressing the Greek Spirits. Using the colors, he utilized the color contrast and applied to the stage for the dramatic dynamism and further attempted to reveal the spirits and identities of the characters through the emotional and psychological effect of colors. Bakst had asked his contemporary artists to ‘Return to the Greek Arts Spirits’ and ‘Creatively use the effects of colors’ through a lot of his documents such as diaries, letters, and papers. It was because he wanted to resolve the problems in the artistic trends he had identified before and because he thought that the use of colors is so critical in the creative world. Therefore, it can be considered that the color utilization method is a very important factor in Bakst’s creative world.
