초록
In literary works, ugliness is divided into ugliness of form and ugliness of words and actions. This paper examines the perception of the artist’s ugliness by analyzing the ugliness of Land around the characters of Pak Kyong-Ni’s Land. In land, ugliness of appearance are used as tools to highlight truth, goodness and beauty. Among the characters, Yun Bo and Jo Byung Soo’s body defects are examples of appearance ugliness. But their shortcomings are not imperfections, but act as an opportunity to make these characters leap. In this work, the ugliness of words and actions are shown by Kang Bong-ki, Kim Doo-su, Lim In-e, and Jo Jun-gu. And the artist emphasizes human compassion for these wicked people, emphasizing human nature, fleeting life, and contradiction of life. The writer uses ugliness to describe the inner truth, goodness, beauty, etc. of the characters beyond the ugliness of the form, rather than comparing the ugliness of form with beauty. This is due to the artist’s view of art that reveals uncertain life as a whole. In conclusion, the ugliness of the appearance of the characters in this work are the elements that give tension and balance to the work, and the ugliness of words and actions are tools for narrative of life’s compassion. In addition, this paper is meaningful in diagnosing the possibility of aesthetics of ugliness in literary works by analyzing the meaning and function of ugliness in land.
