This study quantitatively analyzes the omission of adverbial particles in a messenger corpus and investigates its contributing factors. The omission rate was highest for ‘e’ (30.78%), followed by ‘euro’, ‘ege’, ‘eseo’, ‘boda’, and ‘gwa’. The results are as follows: First, omission was more frequent in arguments than in adjuncts, with ‘e’, ‘euro’, and ‘eseo’ showing statistically significant differences. Second, omission patterns varied by thematic role. For arguments, ‘e’, ‘euro’, and ‘ege’ were most frequently omitted in the Goal (GOL) role, whereas ‘boda’ and ‘cheoreom’, which carry high semantic load, were rarely omitted. Third, regarding word order, omission was generally frequent when adjacent to the predicate, except for the adjunct ‘e’, which showed a higher omission rate when separated from the predicate. This study is significant in empirically demonstrating that adverbial particle omission results from a complex interaction of argument status, thematic roles, and word order.
