초록

Arguably, the most famous argument against non-reductive physicalism is Jaegwon Kim’s exclusion argument. In order to resist this argument, many non-reductive physicalists appeal to the Lewisian counterfactual analysis of causation. In this paper, I argue that the counterfactual analysis is not a useful tool to show the causal efficacy of mental properties under the non-reductive physicalist picture. I further argue that there is a serious tension between non-reductive physicalism and the counterfactual analysis of causation, which shows that there is a reason for non-reductive physicalists to reject the counterfactual analysis.
