일제하 조선의 무덕전과 경찰 무도: 무도 실천의 장(場) 형성과 신체 규율의 메커니즘

초록

This study defines the Mudeokjeon in colonial Korea as a ‘field’ where police martial arts practices were organized and reproduced, elucidating its operational mechanisms. Drawing on Bourdieu’s field–capital–habitus theory, it analyzes the Cheongju Mudeokjeon’s establishment, spatiality, and rituals using Chosŏn Budŏ and contemporary newspaper archives. The Mudeokjeon functioned as an institutional field with pre-defined hierarchies. It spatially fixed power through shrines and Jinjwa-je rituals while visualizing internal ranks via regular competitions and award systems. Furthermore, repetitive training like cold weather drills (Hange-go) served to imprint colonial physical discipline as a habitus. This study holds academic significance in elucidating the micro-structures of martial arts institutionalization under Japanese rule from a history of physical education perspective by integrating the analysis of space, ritual, and bodily practices.
