주택자산의 세대간 이동성에 관한 연구

초록

Becoming a homeowner has important socio-economic attainment as it is one of the major sources of wealth accumulation for most households. It has been argued in the previous literature that the socio-economic characteristics of one generation are quite similar to those of the next. It has been known that individuals who are well endowed with their parental supports tend to resemble their parents. As far as housing asset is concerned, parents may influence the amount of child's housing wealth through material or other types of aids, which is referred to as an intergenerational transmission of homeownership. The main purpose of this paper is to investigate whether there has been an intergenerational effect of homeownership in Korea using the Korean Labor & Income Panel Study. The Multinomial logit models are used to find out whether the characteristics of parents affect the housing wealth of younger generations. Empirical results show that the property assets of child have a very close relation to those of previous generation. It is also found that there is a close association of housing tenure between generations.
