Study on the Pre-Service Physical Education Teachers' Needs on Physical Education-based Health Education

초록

This study was conducted to investigate pre-service physical education teachers’ awareness of school physical education-based health education and their level of understanding of the health content of the physical education curriculum and to identify their educational needs. Data were collected through a questionnaire, and a total of 267 data were used in the final analysis. All data were analyzed using the SPSS statistical package, and Borich needs and the Locus for Focus model analysis were performed to derive the educational needs ranking by contents. As a result, subjects recognized that school-based health education for youth health management is necessary, and that it is reasonable and effective to provide it through physical education classes. However, their understanding of the physical education curriculum related to health education was somewhat low, and their teaching capacity level for some content elements was insufficient. Among the health areas in the physical education curriculum, the educational needs ranking for the content elements related to practical methods for mental health and social health management and exercise prescription was high. Therefore, in order to foster the teaching capacity of pre-service physical education teachers in health education, detailed content with high educational needs, as like mental health care or exercise prescirption, to be actively reflected and improved in major education curricula.
