초록
(Purpose) Physical education high schools in Korea have long contributed in cultivating future athletes, but they now face challenges due to declining student populations, reduced interest in athletic careers, and the unequal popularity across sports. This study explores restructuring strategies that can systematically address these issues and seek fundamental changes in their structure. (Methods) A three-round Delphi survey was conducted with 15 experts who were directly and indirectly involved in physical in high schools. (Results) The results indicated that future-oriented restructuring is required in six areas: the admission system, curriculum organization and operation, sports disciplines, human resource management, school culture, and sports culture. Additionally, eight reconstruction strategies for physical education high schools in Korea were identified as appropriate, urgent, and feasible: introducing career exploration courses in physical education, offering sports science subjects, strengthening character and ethics education, providing programs for students who stop athletic training, adjusting the number of supported sports disciplines, linking sports programs with local elementary and middle schools, expanding leisure and cultural activities, and implementing regular psychological counseling. (Conclusion) These eight strategies offer a practical foundation for restructuring of physical education high schools in Korea to ensure sustainable and relevant development.
