동아시아 항만도시의 물류산업특화지수 비교 연구

초록

Purpose : This paper aims to examine how port has an effect on regional economy especially employment in Northeast Asian countries such as Korea, China and Japan. The research questions have tried to address in this study are that LQ(Location Quotient) or specialization level is different between port city and non-port city, and big-port and small port city in terms of cargo throughput. Furthermore it also attempts to find out which industrial sector have statistically relationship with LQ. Research design, data, methodology : This paper employes ANOVA(One-way Analysis of Variance), t-test and regression model to test the relationship between port and port-city economy as well as identify the determinants of specialization in certain industrial sector and region. Results : The results show that despite the positive relationship between LQ in logistics industry including port and specialization in manufacturing industry, port cities currently exhibit no significant advantages over non-port cities in employment in logistics industry, in addition the level of port-city employment depends more on urban characteristics than on port factors. Conclusions : Traditionally ports have been an important location factor for cities, enabling international trade and investment, facilitating urbanization processes and employing more workers in logistics industry. However port’s role as an economic stimulator has been shrinking not only due to the increased productivity but its extension of the effects to port hinterland.
