Methods for Analyzing Patterns of Issue-Tossing between Development Teams and Its Application to Industrial Projects

초록

In modern large-scale software development, multiple teams collaborate to complete the product, and efficient processing of issues and smooth cooperation between the teams have an important influence on the success of the project. However, due to complexities in the team structures and restructuring, issues are not always resolved immediately and are often “tossed” to other teams, which delays issue resolution time and incurs additional costs. Direct analyses of these inter-team issue tosses have been lacking in previous studies. This study analyzes in-depth the issue toss and resolution status of each team using the data on the two projects of domestic company. We propose new metrics that incorporate domain knowledge of issue tossing and resolution, and use these metrics to evaluate each team’s approach and efficiency in handling issues. Based on these findings, each team is categorized into pass, sink, and hub.
