초록
In this study, we observed phonological variations in the spontaneous speech of children from multicultural families and analyzed their underlying causes. Based on these observations, implications were drawn for Korean language instruction tailored to multicultural children. Data were collected from the spontaneous speech of three children from multicultural families, recorded at three different time points over the course of one year. At each collection point, the types and frequencies of phonological errors produced by the children were documented. The analysis revealed that the overall frequency of phonological errors increased at the second data collection point but decreased by the third, indicating a trend toward stabilization in Korean phonological production as the children aged. However, each type of phonological process error emerged and resolved at different times for each child, demonstrating individual variability. There were also notable differences in the types of phonological errors that were more frequent among the children, likely influenced by their level of Korean proficiency, linguistic background, and the linguistic environment in which they lived. To effectively support the Korean language development of multicultural children, it is essential to consider their individual linguistic characteristics. Additionally, the role of the teacher as a model of accurate Korean usage is crucial.
