Cobalt phosphide (CoP) offers promising electroactive properties for energy storage due to its considerable theoretical capacity. However, interfacial instability during cycling and poor interfacial charge transfer significantly limit its practical application. In this study, a straightforward approach was introduced to synthesize hollow hierarchical Al-doped CoP nanocubes bridged by MXene sheets. The new composite was prepared using the room co-precipitation method of bimetallic AlCoPBA on the MXene surface, which was further phosphorated in a tube furnace using NaH2PO2 as a phosphorus source. Conductive MXene sheets upgrade the supercapacitive properties of the CoP-based electrode by integrating the advantages of 3D porous morphology and Al doping. Further, the AlCoP@MXene heterostructure can store a large amount of energy as indicated by the capacitance value of 2577 F/g calculated at 1 A/g as an adjusted current density (1.5 and 3.61 times that of pristine AlCoP and CoP, respectively) and the prolonged cycle life (90.1 % after 7000 cycles). In addition, the device assembled using the anode from the ZnFeS@NG core-shell hybrid achieves an ultrahigh energy of 85.6 Wh/kg when the power density is altered at 678.5 W/kg with a considerable cycle life of 88 % after repetitive 10,000 galvanostatic charge–discharge cycles. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd
