초록

The purpose of this study is to examine young children’s judgments on peer exclusion and types of inference based on gender stereotypes and group identity. Individual interviews were conducted on 391 young children of ages 3 to 5 in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. This study used SPSS 25.0 for collected data and analyzed collected data with descriptive statistics, t-test and one-way analysis of variance. The results were as follows. First, young children perceived simple context peer exclusion as wrong and serious. However, their judgments differed by age, and Theory of Social Mind (“ToSM”) level. In multifaceted contexts, young children made their selection according to their stereotypes and assessed peer exclusion in multifaceted contexts to be serious. Differences existed depending on qualification, gender, age, ToSM level, and complexity of context. Second, young children made moral inference when evaluating peer exclusion in simple context. There were differences in this result depending on age and ToSM level. Young children made socially conventional inferences when they judged peer exclusion in multifaceted contexts, with differences depending on the qualifications, gender, age, ToSM level, and complexity of context. This study suggested implications and directions for moral education during infancy based on these results.
