중학생의 신체적 자아상과 삶의 만족도 간의 구조적 관계: 자아존중감과 학업 스트레스를 통한 간접효과

Structural Relationships between Physical Self-Image and Life Satisfaction among Middle School Students: Indirect Effects through Self-Esteem and Academic Stress

초록

This cross-sectional study examined the structural associations among physical self-image, self-esteem, academic stress, and life satisfaction in middle school students. Data were drawn from the 15th wave of the Panel Study on Korean Children, and 1,293 eighth-grade students were included in the final analysis. The structural model, controlling for gender, showed that physical self-image was positively associated with self-esteem and negatively associated with academic stress. Self-esteem was negatively associated with academic stress and positively associated with life satisfaction, whereas academic stress was negatively associated with life satisfaction. The direct path from physical self-image to life satisfaction was not statistically significant. However, the specific indirect paths through self-esteem and academic stress were significant. The sequential indirect path from physical self-image to life satisfaction through self-esteem and academic stress was also significant. These findings suggest that appearance-focused physical self-evaluation, self-esteem, and academic stress should be considered together when interpreting middle school students’ life satisfaction in the context of comparison and evaluation in school life.
