초록
This research evaluated how the physical property and the thickness of asphalt pavements influence the behavior of UTW(Ultra Thin Whitetopping) before applying UTW to domestic pavements. A 3-Dimensional Finite Element Method revealed that the thickness and elasticity modulus of asphalt and concrete layers, bond strength between the two layers, the size of the slab. and temperature, etc. effected the critical distress. On the basis of these results, HWLS (Heart Wheel Load Simulator), a wheel tracking type machine, was used to carry out an experiment using the thickness of asphalt and concrete pavements, and the temperature as the experimental variables. The result of the experiment showed that the effect of the thickness of the asphalt layer and the temperature change on the tensile strain in the bottom of the slab was insignificant when the thickness of the concrete was 100 mm. In addition, the increased ratio of the tensile strain as the load increases was relatively smaller when compared with the 50mm thick concrete layer. Furthermore, when the thick- ness of the concrete layer was 50 mm and that of the asphalt layer was less than or equal to 150 mm, the increased ratio of the tensile strain in the bottom of concrete slab with increased load was significantly greater. Thus, it is proposed that the minimum thickness of the asphalt layer after the milling must be at least 150 mm for applying UTW safely.
