세월호 참사 보도 관련 한·미간 비주얼 뉴스 프레임 연구: 연합뉴스와 AP통신의 보도사진 비교 분석을 중심으로

초록

Using Nisbett’s logic of social psychological aspects, this study looks into the respective method and visual framing used by the Western and Eastern news agencies. The results show that there are significant differences between the photographs provided by both news agencies, each reflect their worldview: collectivist Eastern and individualist Western. For content, the AP focused more on personal messages, delving deeper into the “victims” and the urgency in improving the system while Yonhap paid more attention in dissecting and rationalizing the flaws in political powers that carried out the “rescue mission”. In conclusion, in reporting the same event there were noticeable differences as reflected from cultural and management distinctions.
