쿼터의 품질상승효과 분석: 베트남 섬유의류산업

초록

Vietnam, next to China, is the second largest exporting country of textile and clothing products to US market, on which US government has imposed quota from May 2003 by the end of 2006. In this respect,Vietnamese textile and clothing case deserves to analyze the effect of quota on quality improvement, but has not been dealt with yet. With this motivation, this study seeks to empirically investigate with Tornqvist index, the effect of quota on quality improvement in Vietnamese textile and clothing. In particular, we attempt to check out whether empirical outputs go along with theoretical predictions, by comparing quality changes of Vietnamese textile and clothing products imported into US during the periods with quota to without. This study additionally discusses, by checking outcome of Vietnam against those of other countries without quota, whether quota is primarily characteristic of quality changes, and whether market share and quality changes may be somehow linked together.
