러시아 도서관의 디지털화: 문화허브로서 공공도서관의 역할

초록

In this study, we have examined the roles of libraries in Russia today, in the era of cutting-edge technology, by addressing the aspects of the digitalization of libraries that have been underway in Russia. The following topics have been explored in this study to accomplish this objective. First, the current situation in Russia, of the history of the emergence of electronic libraries and the digital transformation of printed publications has been discussed. Second, the trend of the ‘digitalization of libraries’, which is one of the major goals of the ‘digital economy’ policy recently advocated by the Russian government, has been assessed. Third, the debate on the advantages and disadvantages of the relevant issue has been studied within the Russian academia. Thus, this study seeks to assert that the function that the Russian society demands of libraries today is for them to function as a cultural hub that offers opportunities for people to engage in a range of cultural experiences and activities.
