초록
This study examined the developmental trajectories of body esteem and smartphone overdependence during adolescence and their longitudinal relationship using data from waves 14 (2021) through 16 (2023) of the Panel Study on Korean Children (PSKC), applying a parallel latent growth model to 911 adolescents. Body esteem decreased significantly over middle school, while smartphone overdependence showed no significant mean-level increase but significant individual differences in trajectories. The two variables were longitudinally interconnected: lower initial body esteem was associated with higher initial smartphone overdependence, higher initial smartphone overdependence was associated with a less steep decline in body esteem, and a greater decrease in body esteem was associated with a greater increase in smartphone overdependence. Female adolescents reported lower initial body esteem, and higher subjective socioeconomic status was associated with higher initial body esteem and lower initial smartphone overdependence. These findings suggest that adolescent body esteem and smartphone overdependence should be understood within the broader context of socioeconomic vulnerability and digital divide.
