Design Comparison between Jaime Hayon and Karim Rashid

초록

The objective of this study was to compare and analyze the design characteristics of Jaime Hayon and Karim Rashid. These designers present innovative designs through experimental thinking and new production methods, while collaboration and convergence with other fields have become increasingly important in recent years. This study examined domestic and international monographs and previous studies centered on literature and case studies. The scope of this study was a comparative analysis of the works of Jaime Hayon and Karim Rashid. The results of the study are as follows. Jaime Hayon expressed extraordinary and playful design concepts based on "surrealism, utilizing unrealistic elements", created "organic designs using curves" to convey flexible images, and suggested "symbolism using traditional elements" that reinterpret tradition by combining traditional materials and modern technology. Karim Rashid's design concepts were "abstraction using natural elements" by utilizing modules to create a living atmosphere like an organism. He expressed "dynamism using atypical elements" and elegance centered on functionality and showed "innovation using digital" by actively utilizing colorful digital patterns and new materials. Jaime Hayon and Karim Rashid present progressive designs based on organic shapes by fusing various materials and technologies while crossing the boundaries of art and design. In comparison, Jaime Hayon's surrealistic works, centered on tradition, emphasize formality, while Karim Rashid's futuristic works focus on functionality. The importance of this study is to propose a direction for design to future students by providing materials for creative ideas along with new design thinking, production methods, and different perspectives on design concepts.
