256-Element Active Integrated Array Antenna With 2-Dimensional 160 Degree Scanning

This paper proposes a compact slot-fed patch array antenna module designed for wide-angle beamforming in high-mobility millimeter-wave (mmWave) applications. The array includes 256 radiating elements, each connected to a 4-channel beamforming IC (BFIC), enabling a fully integrated and low-profile architecture. To achieve 160-degree two-dimensional beam steering, a patterned dielectric layer is placed above the antenna aperture. The proposed module improves angular coverage while maintaining gain variation and low sidelobe levels. With its high level of integration and wide scanning capability, the proposed module offers a practical solution for next-generation mmWave systems requiring stable and adaptive directional communication in dynamic and space-constrained environments.
