초록

Understanding the structure of Marx’s Capital requires a systematic explanation of the historical-institutional conditions for modern capitalism. ‘Property’ is an essential keyword to enter the world of Marx’s critique of political economy. Marx distinguishes private property based on individual labor (simple commodity production) from capitalist private property based on appropriating the labor of other people. Marx shows clearly that the establishment of capitalist private property is an essential condition for capitalist accumulation even though it is not a natural consequence of capital movement. The historical-institutional conditions for modern capitalism have been evolving, accompanied by the shifts of capitalist world hegemonies. In the twentieth century, one of the most important changes for the capitalist property structure was the rise of corporate capitalism, while neo-liberalism reveals its critical turning point. Renewed studies on the distinct levels and spaces of the critique of political economy is inevitable for the renewal of Marxist politics.
