초록
This study examines some researcher's findings that social capital has an influence on national competitiveness. It compares citizen perception of Korean, Chinese, and Japanese on social capital and national competitiveness. It assumes that the relationships between social capital and national competitiveness in Asian countries have both of similarities and differences to those of Western countries because social capital is a part of culture. More than 2,300 surveys are used for data in Korea, China, and Japan. This research findings include that ① hierarchical group membership is higher than horizontal group membership in all three countries. ② Chinese perception on national competitiveness is higher than other countries, while Japanese perception is lower. ③ Personal trust has an influence on national competitiveness in Korea and China. ④ Horizontal group membership has a positive impact on national competitiveness in all three countries, while hierarchical group membership has a positive influence on the competitiveness only in Korea. ⑤ Open network has a positive impact on national competitiveness in all countries. However, closed network has a negative impact on national competitiveness in Korea and China, while the network has no impact on the competitiveness in Japan.
