게임서사의 활용, <인사이드 아웃>의 스토리텔링 분석

초록

<Inside Out>, Pixar’s 15th animated feature film produced in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of Pixar, was dramatized and directed by Pete Docter. Pixar has adhered to original creative animations through its 30 years’ history and has achieved the highest success both artistically and commercially, and the core of its animation strategies is in creative storytelling. Pixar has invented novel worlds by animating and personifying a large variety of lifeless and living things such as toys, fish, mice, monsters, and cars, and in <Inside Out> it personified human emotions into characters and awed the viewers again. By adopting game storytelling and describing the interaction of emotions at tension like playing a game, in addition, the movie lets the viewers feel enjoying a game. This game of interaction of emotions differentiates the movie from other growth stories, which are the most common theme of animations. In the digital age, fusion and crossover take place throughout all the areas of entertainment including movie, game, cartoon, animation, and music, and game is at the central position in this trend and exerting huge influence on storytelling. Different types of games such as role playing games, adventure games, action games, and sports games have now become the types of animation storytelling, and <Inside Out> adopts the elements of role playing and adventure games. This study analyzed the differentiation strategies of storytelling used in this movie by examining the growth story described using the elements of game storytelling and the interaction of emotions and analyzing the function of sadness as a barrier factor in <Inside Out>.
