구한말 태극학회의 체육활동에 관한 연구

초록

The purpose of this study was to understand sports activities of Taegukhakhoei during Last Period Choseon Dynasty. As a result, the following can be concluded; Taegukhakhoei organization was operated by directors and members in charge of practical work, while important items were decided at members general meetings and directors meetings. The physical education thought of Taegukhakhoei emphasized the necessity of physical education as the means of seeking the wealth and military strength of the nation. The sports activities of Taegukhakhoei was activities of recreational nature, such as individual athletic meetings, picnics, and sea bathing were carried out. It is considered that such activities were harmony and unity among Koreans students studying abroad and to inspire students with the national consciousness.
