민족다양성과 경제성과 - 중국 신장위구르자치구의 사례 -

초록

The main purpose of this research is to investigate the role of the ethnic diversity in explaining the economic performance in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. We use the panel data from the eighty-four counties and cities in Xinjiang from 1990 to 2012. We show that the ethnic diversity indexes are associated with the productivity in terms of the GDP per capita and the long-run economic growth in Xinjiang. Given the findings of the research, one of the challenges that the Chinese government faces to deal with the violence and the conflict in Xinjiang is to figure out how evenly as possible to distribute the increased pie, due partly to the influx of the Han into Xinjiang, between the regions and the ethnic groups.
