청소년의 과제 선호 성향 예측 요인 탐색

This study was to identify predictors of adolescents’ task preference among one’s beliefs about intelligence, achievement goals, academic efficacy, parents’ autonomy support, and family process. Subjects were 673 adolescents attending elementary, junior-high, and high schools in Seoul, Korea. Measures of task preference(easy and challenging), academic achievement, one’s beliefs about intelligence(incremental and entity), achievement goals(mastery, performance-approach, and performance-avoidance), academic efficacy, parents’ autonomy support, and family process were administered. It was found that challenging task preferred adolescents showed higher academic achievement, mastery goals, academic efficacy, parents’ autonomy support, and family process(closeness, communication, and conflict), and lower entity beliefs about intelligence, and performance-avoidance goals. A binary logistic regression analysis showed that 70.7% of the adolescents in the study were accurately classified as either easy task or challenging task preferred adolescents in respect to school level(elementary), gender(male), academic achievement, ones’ entity beliefs about intelligence, mastery goals, performance-avoidance goals. Perhaps, a training program need to be developed in order for adolescents to fall for challenging tasks based on the findings.
