Objectives: The purpose of this study is to understand the meaning of parenthood experienced by fathers of multiple children in the process of becoming parents from the perspective of symbolic interactionism, and to present a new paradigm of parenthood through a grounded theory approach. Method: In-depth interviews with 10 selected male participants raising three or more children were conducted to perform a qualitative study on the experiences of fathers of multiple children. Results: In the open coding process, 66 concepts and 29 subcategories were derived, and 13 categories were derived from the subcategories. The primary phenomena identified through axial coding were ‘work-family balance practice’ and ‘joint parenting identity formation’. Additionally, type analysis resulted in the categorization of three distinct types: ‘active change type’, ‘developmental adaptation type’, and ‘reality-based type’. During selective coding, the core category was ‘the process of enjoying and growing together with children’. Conclusions: This study helps to understand the meaning of parenting as revealed in the parenting process of fathers with many children, and based on this, a substantive theory of parenting with many children is derived.
