Community Residents’ Engagement in Elderly Health Care: Insights from Focus Group Interviews

초록

This qualitative study explored the experiences of community-based elderly health care navigators. 17 older adults participating in a community health navigator program at a medical-social cooperative in A City, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, were recruited for the focus group interviews. Through the interviews and thematic analysis, key themes emerged, including personal motivation, facilitating factors, multidimensional roles, perceived outcomes, and future expectations. Participants acted as trusted insiders who identified vulnerable elders, provided emotional support, encouraged healthy practices, and connected them to services. Their engagement fostered mutual care, enhanced their own well-being, and contributed to sustainable local care systems. Findings highlight the potential of citizen-led health care and suggest the need for institutional support and capacity building.
