팬덤과 광장의 조우: 2030 여성들의 윤석열 탄핵 광장 참여 경험을 통해 본 젠더화된 문화정치

초록

This study examines the political practices of women in their 20s and 30s who participated in the impeachment protests following the December 3 Martial Law incident in 2024, focusing on the cultural-political significance of K-pop lightsticks at the intersection of fandom and the public square. Fandom is conceptualized as a space of everyday cultural politics, while the square is approached as a site of collective performance. Drawing on the concept of ‘tactical repertoires’ from social movement theory, the study traces how lightsticks were transformed into a central symbol of protest. Based on in-depth interviews and participant observation, three key findings emerge. First, participants’ prior experiences of resistance, political awareness, and collective action-shaped through the convergence of fandom and feminism-enabled them to appropriate the lightstick as a tactical tool during the protests. Second, the lightstick functioned simultaneously as a symbol of 2030 women and as a medium of mutual recognition and solidarity, ultimately coming to embody the protest space itself. This shift represented not only a transformation of identity but also a cultural intervention that reconfigured symbolic orders and intergroup relations. Third, the identities of woman, fan, and citizen remained in tension. The “Wednesdays Toward Equality” poster controversy revealed internal hierarchies and conflicts, with queer participants positioned as destabilizing figures-highlighting a structural contradiction in which 2030 women were symbolically central yet politically marginalized. Overall, this study demonstrates how fandom can operate as a democratic practice within the square and calls for renewed reflection on the political representation of 2030 women in post-protest Korea.
