Lead-free and aqueous perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) have become a significant area of research to address the toxicity issues of traditional lead-based perovskites. In this study, glutathione-functionalized cesium copper chloride (GSH-CsCuCl3) PQDs were synthesized via a slow solvent evaporation technique. The as-prepared GSH-CsCuCl3 PQDs exhibited bright blue fluorescence with excitation and emission peaks at 360 and 447 nm, respectively, and a quantum yield of 19.65 %. These PQDs were employed as a sensing probe for the detection of serotonin (ST), demonstrating a linear detection range from 0.05 to 5 μM and a detection limit of 19.09 nM. The GSH-CsCuCl3 PQDs displayed a rapid response time, making them a promising candidate for cost-effective and efficient analytical assay of ST in biological fluids such as urine and serum. This innovative approach presents a sustainable and effective solution for ST sensing, potentially advancing diagnostic and analytical applications in medical and biochemical fields.
