가상 공간과 면대면 조건 간 집단극화의 차이에 관한 연구

초록

The present study composed of three experiments examined differences in decision making between computer-mediated (or CMC) and face-to-face communications (or FTF). In Experiment 1, each of 17 groups of 4-5 (N=82) discussed a donation entrance system through CMC and a week later a college-based university system through FTF communication mode for half an hour to reach final group decisions. Results indicated that group polarization was found only in the FTF condition and also the magnitude of group polarization was greater in FTF than in CMC. In Experiment 2, 20 groups of 4 in the CMC condition and 18 groups of 4 in the FTF condition discussed a college-based university system for an hour. The findings were the same as those found in Experiment 1. In Experiment 3, 17 groups of 4 in the CMC condition and 20 groups of 4 in the FTF condition discussed a donation entrance system. The findings replicated Experiment 1 and 2. These findings were discussed in relation to differences between CMC and FTF as communication modes.
