개화기 시조의 일탈–『大韓每日申報』 소재 시조를 중심으로-

초록

This paper focuses on the fact that the Sijo (a traditional Korean genre) of poetry in the Enlightenment period of Korea deviates considerably from the formality and sentiment of earlier-time Sijo, and seeks to examine such development in terms of the traditional succession and disconnection of the Korean Sijo. To that purpose, Daehanmaeilsinbo Newspaper, which contains the largest number of works, was selected as the study subject for convenience’s sake. Since the Korean Sijo is a fixed-form poem type consisting of 3 chapters, 6 phrases and 12 metres, so works that do not follow this form would not be considered Sijo. In addition, in terms of contents, Sijo is a lyric literature that converges emotions triggered by the subject into the poet himself. Therefore, pieces of Sijo in the Enlightenment period may be called a group of an array of works with the characteristics of deviation whose form and contents failed to inherit the entire tradition of earlier-time Sijo. First, in terms of its formative aspect, the Sijo during the Enlightenment period shows that they deviated from the 12 metre-Sijo formalism by omitting the four metres of the ending chapter, while focusing on creating an atmosphere of anti-Japan mood and recovering Korea’s independence in the special situation under the Japanese colonial rule of Korea. This is a departure from the formal aesthetics of the four metres of the last chapter of Sijo, and in the following process of leading to the modern Sijo style, such deviation is deemed to be one of factors that damaged the formalism of Sijo. Second, in terms of contents, the Sijo during the Enlightenment period was deviated from the mainstream genre of lyric poetry and changed into the objective literature which contained the special logic of the era. 373 of the 386 pieces of work were biased to include specific themes such as anti- Japanese sentiment, desire for independence, and aspiration for civilization flowering, making it difficult to see the Sijo during the Enlightenment as a lyric literature. Therefore, this paper sought to define the Sijo in the Enlightenment period as the “Sijo of the deviation”, and this deviation is regarded as related to the disconnection of the tradition that the entire tradition of earlier-time Sijo was not succeeded to the modern Sijo.
