초록

Gastroesophageal reflux disease can cause various esophageal and extraesophageal symptoms, the most common of which are heartburn and regurgitation. Antireflux surgery is recommended when medical treatment fails to control gastroesophageal reflux disease symptoms or when the patient opts for surgery despite successful medical management. Complications of gastroesophageal reflux disease and extraesophageal symptoms are also indications for antireflux surgery. The outcome of antireflux surgery might be different depending on the patients’ symptoms, response to medical therapy, and the results of pH monitoring. These preoperative characteristics are predictive factors for favorable outcome after antireflux surgery and should be considered when selecting suitable patients for antireflux surgery. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2023.
