This study aims to examine how “X-hada” neologisms found on the internet combine with non-predicative roots, focusing in particular on cases where “hada” attaches to such roots to function as verbs or adjectives. To this end, expressions of “X-hada” collected from online communities and SNS (X) between January 1 and December 31, 2024, were gathered. Only those neologisms not listed in the Standard Korean Dictionary were selected. Subsequently, the 102 types (1,321 tokens) obtained were first classified according to whether their roots were predicative (action-oriented or state-oriented) or non-predicative, and then further examined based on the nature of their root modifications (original form, expanded form, or reduced form). The analysis revealed that instances of non-predicative roots combining with “hada” to create new meanings have become more frequent than before, taking diverse forms such as proper nouns, loanwords, and repeated roots. Particularly noteworthy are the examples of non-predicative nouns whose original meanings have been transformed—like “yeoneo-hada” and “bora-hada”—or those adopting English word-formation elements into Korean, such as “GOAT-hada”, “Capa-hada” and “gaslighting-hada” These new formations underscore speakers’ desire to convey meaning concisely and effectively, while also demonstrating the potential expansibility of Korean word formation.
