초록

This article examines the achievements and significance of the 1990s in the study of Korean women’s history. Although the 1990s have not been specifically highlighted until now, this decade was a period of remarkable achievements in the field. First, research on Korean women’s history rapidly increased in both quantity and scope, with topics being further subdivided and explored in greater depth. Second, women’s history gained recognition within the history community, and efforts were made to disseminate the results of Korean women’s history to the public. Third, the theorization of women’s history began to take shape, and gender history emerged as a framework for historical analysis, extending beyond the study of women. The rapid growth of Korean women’s history, both quantitatively and qualitatively, in the 21st century was influenced by the research results of the 1990s and the shift in public perception. However, gender history has not yet led to a paradigm shift within the field of history, with theory and research remaining disconnected.
