영어 말하기 평가에 대한 학습자 인식 연구

Learners’ perceptions on English speaking assessment

초록

The purpose of this study is to investigate learners’ perceptions on English speaking assessment. Through the online survey, the researchers collected data from 742 adult online English learners and personal administrators in various companies. The survey consisted of two sections: participants’ general background information and their perceptions on English speaking assessment. The items on the perceptions are categorized into 7 areas: belief, operation time, test impact, rating criteria, test method, feedback, and preparation of speaking tests. Results of the study showed that learners generally believed that although the English speaking assessment is more valid than other English proficiency tests, it should assess more pragmatic language competence and provide more detailed information about rating criteria and evaluation procedures to both test users and test takers. Based on the findings, the study concludes with some implications in terms of improving English speaking assessment and directing future English proficiency movement.
