역사건축자산과 주변 건축물의 환경색채 관계 특성 - 숭례문, 팔달문을 중심으로 -

초록

(Background and Purpose) In many Korean cities, high-rise buildings, commercial facilities, and outdoor advertisements around Architectural Heritage have accumulated without regulation, weakening historical identity amid insufficient Environmental Color management. This study examines Sungnyemun and Paldalmun to identify a Color Relationship that harmonizes the heritage color image with the contemporary urban context and to suggest foundational directions for Environmental Color planning in historic districts. (Method) Review the literature and local guidelines to summarize Environmental Color characteristics for historic-cultural districts and to establish survey criteria for regionality and Color Relationship. Field surveys documented the Environmental Color of Sungnyemun, Paldalmun, and adjacent buildings; mean color deviations were compared by element (main, secondary, accent, glass, outdoor advertisement), frequency analysis was used to assess regionality, and similar-color analysis evaluated Color Relationships between heritage and surroundings. (Results) In both areas, main colors generally align with the Architectural Heritage, forming baseline harmony. Around Sungnyemun, extensive curtain walls and glass façades increase deviations in secondary and glass colors relative to the heritage palette. Around Paldalmun, secondary and accent colors are closer to the heritage palette, while outdoor advertisements in both areas show wide hue ranges and high chroma that disrupt landscape harmony. Similar-color analysis indicates strong Color Relationship only for main colors; secondary, accent, glass, and advertisement colors exhibit generally low chromatic linkage. (Conclusions) While partial harmony is achieved through main colors, glass curtain walls and outdoor advertisements diminish the symbolic presence and historic landscape of Architectural Heritage. Applying high-transmittance, low-chroma glass coordinated with heritage colors and regulating signboard/advertisement colors within a district-specific Environmental Color and Color Relationship framework are necessary to build a sustainable historic streetscape around Sungnyemun and Paldalmun.
