The purpose of this study is to reveal the formative characteristics by analyzing the overall background and case of Kinetic Art artist Theo Jansen's Strandbeest series, which utilizes wind energy to realize the animal form moving on the beach stage. Through this, it is meaningful to understand the work process using natural energy and to provide expanded thinking and inspiration in an eco-friendly manner. On top of that, The subject of the study was Theo Jansen's real work Strandbeest series produced in the 1990s and analyzed the formativeness in terms of form, material, and space through literature research and case study of work. About this, The results of the study are as follows. Firstly, Strandbeest's form is largely divided into arthropods and caterpillars, the energy and mobility required for the movement of the work vary depending on its characteristics. The arthropods moved relatively slowly from side to side through dynamic rhythm, flexibility, repetition of form, and straight structure. On the other hand, the caterpillars which emphasizes organic curves, is smaller in size and longer than the arthropods, so it is more stable in terms of mobility and suitable for coastal terrain that changes quickly. Secondly, The use of plastic tubes, vinyl, plastic bottles, rubber hoses, and wood in the formative expansion of Strandbeest was utilized as the basic formative elements of the work, and added the functionality of the work through free shape transformation, application of wind energy and variability. This emphasized the natural beauty of harmonizing with the beach along with the expressive expansion of the work. Thirdly, Strandbeest's form and function also evolved depending on the space in which the work was placed. On the stage from Non-sand floor, flat, wet sand, coastal dunes, and entire sandy beaches, there were large iterations and symmetrical linear structures and curved moving structures, and more stable movement and a variable form that can be deformed is presented.
